Ok, well I got that out of my system. My podcast has been this body and brain’s way of working through my stand-up days. My heroes as a teen-ager were stand-up comics and that was my early dream gig.
My podcast going forward will dive deep into how we humans operate. I have worked with humans my whole adult life beginning as a resident staff member with emotionally disturbed children at a residential treatment center. In my late twenties I flew the coop and started my own motivational coaching business. Over the last 30+ years I have worked with prisoners and CEOs of billion-dollar organizations and everything in between.
So, if you haven’t been turned off by my last few wacky podcasts I hope you will tune in on Fridays as I will dive deep into the physical, emotion and neurological underpinnings of this human body we inhabit.
And my TBI has forced me to walk through the darkest aspects of my personality with eyes wide open. In other words, “Been there, done that.”
Additionally, we will discuss evolution, physiology, philosophy and neuroanatomy as we leave no stone untuned.
Next week’s podcast we will touch on one of my favorite books – Evolution for Everyone by David Sloan Wilson. Here is a teaser quote from the book, “Goodness evolves when the environment is set-up to reward goodness.“ and he proved it with chickens!
My new brain is almost 100% impacted by the environment. Here is a quote from my initial medical report, “The patient has suffered a severe damage and swelling to the Right Interior Frontal Lobe…Damage to this region will impact the patient in the following ways:
The patient will have difficulty with inhibitory control and demonstrates no ability to put the brakes on any impulsive thought or action. Additionally, this region of the brain helps detect novel or unexpected stimuli which shifts the brains focus and immediate motivation. This region also reads social cues and regulates appropriate social behavior which he clearly lacks at this time,” CLEARLY LACKS!
Folks, environment is everything for this brain and I will share all the changes I have had to make in my environment to regulate my behavior. And our environment impacts us all perhaps more than you realize.
And, as an added bonus, my wonderful soulmate, Lynn, took lots of videos initially of me at the hospital and I will post them because they are hilarious and, at times, moving and, at times disturbing.
And a quick nod to my wonderful and amazing children. They went through all this and still talk to their dad!
Hang in there. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger (and thinner).
Be well and Happy Valentines Day.
Tim
